What does S2162 do?
S2162 will amend the environmental conservation law to:
- Promote the health and viability of pollinators in the state by supporting habitat protection, promoting the state's native pollinators, and increasing public awareness of the importance of pollinators
- Ensure promotion of the state’s native pollinators on any lands owned and actively maintained by NY state.
- Ensure that state land maintenance agencies incorporate pollinator-friendly landscaping practices, create or reestablish pollinator friendly habitats, adjust and reduce mowing practices and the use of pesticides.
- Add signage to public lands educating the public about the use of such pollinator friendly practices.
Thanks, and fingers crossed for another win for land restoration and rewilding! (Last year many of you supported the Native Seed Enhancement and Development Program, which passed with Governor Hochul’s signature in December 2024.
